The weather hasn’t been quite as nice as on Sunday, but even so (and despite not finishing work until 1.30 this morning) it has been too good to pass up the opportunity to get out into the local hills on another exploratory run. This particular path is on the final section of Hong Kong’s MacLehose Trail – A 100km long footpath that crosses the Territory on an East-West course, taking in some of Hong Kong’s finest countryside. Just a few weeks ago this path would have been host to some 10,000 runners and hikers on the annual Oxfam Trailwalker; a fund raising, non-stop, charity race for 4-person teams, which has been held every November since 1981. Starting as a Gurkha training exercise within the British Army, this particular trail walking series is now one of the world’s largest hike/run events with races taking place in 15 locations Worldwide. This year saw the setting of a new record for the Hong Kong course – an incredible 11 hours, 12 minutes and 15 seconds were all it took for the Salomon France Team to smash previous records set by The People’s Liberation Army team and The Gurkhas. I don’t think we’ll be challenging those times next year!
